Someone asked me the other day what I thought was the biggest threat to good communication brought on by our use of technology – emails, text messaging, tweets, etc. My answer: I think we are losing our ability to confront each other. Confrontation is positive and negative – a kind of necessary tension – if you don’t practice it, you will get flabby.
Technology allows us to say more but say less face to face. Not communicating face to face is like practicing for a marathon on a running machine. Don’t be surprised when you hit the pavement and the headwind!
